Joseph Ward
I am Joseph Ward, the founder of On the Shoulders of Giants, a historical platform created to tell the stories of the sung and unsung heroes of the African Diaspora. I first learned about the Black History Alliance from a conversation with Nicole Everett. She called me one day to see if I was interested in checking out the then Black History Month Festival, to see if it was something I wanted to be a part of. I attend my first meeting at the South Side Library in September of 2019, after the meeting I was interested in helping to unite the black history events within our area. As a historian, I understand the power of us learning about our history and wanted to be a part of an organization with a similar mission as myself. At my first meeting, I saw that could help with social media and the website, also use my knowledge of black history and relationships to help the organization be successful. I am in my second year as an advisory board member and I enjoy what we do within our community, I am also looking forward to the Black History Alliance being able to host and collaborate with other organizations to bring black history events year round.
